What is a chemical peel?
Chemical peels are an excellent and safe way to exfoliate, brighten, and smooth the texture of skin on your face, neck, and chest. In addition, chemical peels help heal acne, reduce the appearance of lines, lighten age spots, lighten spots from sun damage, and even minimize the appearance of some scars.
Results of peels are impressive, quick, and long lasting. Although you will notice improvements in your skin after 1 peel, the greatest improvements come over time with additional peels.
To maintain refreshed, glowing skin, you will need to continue having maintenance peels at least every 6 months.
Common Chemical Peels Include:
- TCA peels
- Glycolic acid peels
- Vi peels
- Chemical peels
The TCA peel includes trichloroacetic acid, a strong chemical that can correct difficult skin problems. Because it is a particularly strong face peel, there is generally a 3-week down time after a TCA peel. The first few days after treatment, your skin is likely to be red and slightly irritated, and then it will become extremely brown. The top layer of skin will then begin to peel away in sheets to reveal fresh, new, smoother-looking and younger-looking skin!
Clients suggest that having a TCA peel can be painful. To increase your comfort during the procedure, we will ice and fan the treated area.
The TCA peel is especially useful for people with light acne scars and discolored areas from the sun. It is not recommended for people with dark skin.
Glycolic Acid Peel
Glycolic peels use a mild chemical peel solution to help refine and rejuvenate the skin. Depending on the needs of your skin, it takes 5 to 6 treatments every 2 to 4 weeks to reap full benefits of a glycolic peel. Although you can begin seeing improvements in your skin after 3 or 4 treatments, the greatest effects of the glycolic peel are cumulative and more dramatic with ongoing treatments.
Because the glycolic acid peel does not penetrate as deeply into the skin as the TCA, it does not cause much irritation. For this reason, there is little or no down time needed after a glycolic skin peel.
Most people who have glycolic acid peels say they experience only minor dryness and itching as their fresh, new skin begins to surface and glow!
Glycolic peels are ideal for people with sensitive skin who have little or no acne scarring and only minimal sun damage. It is a wonderful, refreshing, mild maintenance treatment for someone who wants to refine a mostly clear complexion!
A vi peel can yield outstanding results in 7 to 10 days! The vi peel improves skin texture and tone through deeper exfoliation than other peels. It helps reduce and eliminate spots from sun damage and age, including hyperpigmented areas, melasma, and freckles. In addition, vi peels can soften lines and wrinkles and reduce the appearance of pigmented scars from acne or other problems. It even can help promote collagen production and plump the skin in some people.
Vi peel treatment is not painful. After treatment, your skin will turn light brown and then begin peeling to reveal fresh, new skin. The peeling might last 4 to 5 days and you will see noticeable results within a week!
It is useful for all skin types, including darker skin types that are common among Asian, Latin, and African American people. The vi peel is ideal for adolescents and adults who have or have had acne.
After your Vi peel, we will give you a wonderful take-home care package that includes a special moisturizer, sunscreen, instruction booklet, and 2 towelettes to further help promote the effects of your peel.
People who have vi peels are usually delighted with their luminous, glowing, and more youthful-looking skin!
